Good time for Brunei to invest abroad

The Lord Mayor of London, Mr Alderman David Lewis, views Brunei Darussalam as “an oasis of calm” in the face of the current global economic turmoil.

Speaking at a press conference at Li Gong Restaurant, Empire Hotel & Country Club, Mr Lewis encouraged Brunei to take advantage of this opportunity to invest abroad because its economy is currently doing “extremely well” and that it would take the rest of the world “at least a year” to recover.

The Lord Mayor of London said that he was impressed with the Brunei Government’s diversification programme for the next few years.

“We, in the City of London, would be particularly interested to help with the setting up of a financial centre here which would include Islamic finance, PPP (Public Private Partnership) and PFI (Private Finance Initiative),” he said, while pointing out that Brunei will need the private finances in order to achieve the projects that it plans to implement over the next few years.
