TWO men have been found guilty of being drunk and disorderly onboard a Qatar Airways flight.
One of the men, a Qatari national, will be given 40 lashes if found fit enough to take the punishment.The other man, a Greek, was fined QR3,000.Both men were further ordered to pay QR2,000 for swearing at Qatar Airways staff during the flight and on landing. However, they were cleared of assault charges due to a lack of evidence.
A court was told that the two men were drunk and unruly onboard a flight traveling from London to Doha on May 13.They were arrested by airport security on arrival in Doha and taken to the capital police station. A medical test found them to be intoxicated. Both men admitted to being drunk and to using foul language, but they denied allegations of assault.
Delivering its verdict, the court said the Qatari should be lashed for drinking wine in accordance with Sharia Law. However, as the Greek was not a Muslim he escaped the same fate.
