ISLAM: INTERCULTURAL TRAINING FOR BPM STAFF

(ANSAmed) – MILAN, JUNE 12 – With the increase of the Muslim presence in
Italy,
even services such as banks are starting to get interested in the cultural
differences of their clients: thanks to the cooperation with the Academy of
inter-religious studies (ISA) of Milan, in September a cycle of courses
addressed to the staff of the Banca Popolare di Milano (BPM) will begin. The

target: to study in depth the issues of interculturalism, with a particular
attention on Islam. The initiative was presented by ISA in Milan and the
courses will be held by the teachers of the Academy. Initially there will be
a
four-hour format, dedicated to the managers, which then will be extended to
the
desk operators. The course, integrated in the ordinary professional update
training, will deal with issues such as religious symbols (above all, the
meaning of the veil) but also with economic topics, like Islamic banking.
The
interest towards Islam does not concern only banks. In these days, as
explained
by the director of the Islamic religious community Co.re.is, Abd al-Sabur
Turrini, who attended yesterday’s meeting, talks are being held with the
Financial Police, which is reportedly interested in staff training
activities,
in particular, as Turrini explained, “in order to better understand how
Islam
can be compatible with the Italian laws”. (ANSAmed).
