Woman Who Left Islam for Tea Pot Cult Sent to Jail; Shrine Demolished
: Former school teacher Kamariah Ali, 57, has been sent to jail for
leaving Islam to join Sky Kingdom, a cult that worships a giant tea pot.
Although the country allows freedom of worship, it doesn’t apply to those
that were born a Muslim.
“The court is not convinced that the accused has repented and is willing to
abandon any teachings contrary to Islam. I pray God will open the doors of
your heart, Kamariah,” said Sharia judge Mohammed Abdullah.
Their teachings emphasize inter-faith dialogue, and of course the tea pot,
which is seen as a symbol of water’s purity and “love pouring from heaven.”
When Ali was arrested in 2005, the government demolished the grounds on
which the sect congregated.
