A cab driver in Chicago who was convicted of attempting to send money to support Al Qaeda has been sentenced to just over 7 years in prison.

This is an absurdly light sentence. Imagine it were 1943 and a Chicago cab driver was convicted of trying to send money to support Nazi Germany or Imperial Japan? Would such a person get off with such a light sentence?

This individual was willing to provide material support to the Jihadist terrorist organization that perpetrated the 9/11 attacks, the USS Cole bombing and the bombings of the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. Moreover, Al Qaeda has been locked in mortal combat with US troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia and elsewhere for a decade. Yet Raja Lahrasib Khan wanted to send Al Qaeda money.

Does anyone really believe that Khan will be a loyal US citizen when he emerges from prison?

A taxi driver was sentenced Friday to 7 1/2 years in federal prison for donating $500 to an al Qaeda agent.

Pakistan-born Raja Lahrasib Khan, 58, who became a U.S. citizen in 1988, tried to donate another $1,000 to the terror group through its agent Ilyas Kashmiri, prosecutors said.

Khan admitted he met at least twice in Pakistan in the mid- to late-2000s with Kashmiri, a leader of the independence movement in Kashmir, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
The statement continued: “At the time of the second meeting, Khan knew or had reason to believe that Kashmiri was working with al Qaeda, in addition to leading attacks against the Indian government in the Kashmir region. During their 2008 meeting, Kashmiri told Khan that Osama bin Laden was alive, healthy, and giving orders…
