Question

1 My almost four year old son goes to madarssah for an hour each day, four times a week. he is only memorizing surahs from Juz Amma. My husband is present with at the madrassah too. He started three weeks ago and has learnt 8 surahs so far. He, however cries everyday that he doesnt want to go to class. My husband usually scolds him and he has to go everyday. We do revision at home too. Is it advisable for him to continue going to class? My husband also insists that Allah has made us to learn about the deen only and that children shouldnt have too much time to play? Is it ok to think like this?

2 Is there any hadith that states the importance of play for child under seven years old?

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

The classes have already commenced and your child is already attending. It is normal for a child to cry during his first days in school or madrasa.

Inshallah, that will settle down and the child will benefit. Give incentive to the child and encourage him. Don’t force the child to the extent that he resents the classes.

And Allah knows best
